Karaoke comes from the Japanese kara “empty,” and ōkesutora “orchestra”)
It is a form of interactive entertainment in which amateur singers (like you and me) or pro singers (like Anny Vasquez) sing along with recorded music, typically a well-known pop song minus the lead vocal, lyrics are displayed on a video screen, along with a moving symbol or changing color and/or music video images, to guide the singer.
For me this is the one of the most entertaining hobbies I have come a cross, you can enjoy it alone or with friends and family… or you may even go to a Karaoke bar to enjoy it with strangers, (he, he, he) they might not enjoy it that much if your singing is more like howling 🙂
There are many ways of doing this but, well what is more interesting is finding a way of doing it for free, from your own PC, I few years ago I found this great piece of software called VanBasco Karaoke player, this is an ad-free freeware, player that plays MIDI Karaoke files; Lyrics may even be displayed in full-screen (if you have a dual monitor this works best). You can change and recall tempo, volume, and key of a song, and mute or solo instruments.
There is a vast community out there around the globe contributing with Kar files that can be played using Vanbasco, here are some examples:
With your PC connected to the speakers of your stereo (using an easy to find and cheap Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug/2-RCA) and a microphone, you can turn any social gathering into an awesome experience (well sometimes you may feel it could have been a little embarrassing to sing in front of the crowd – but who cares if you are having fun)
Have fun and come back to this blog if you find out about other cool hobbies or about where to find more Karaoke fun!!
