The amiable Social networking site where 15% of the world internet users like to sign in to connect with others is now officially bigger in terms of population than the fourth country in the world, Indonesia, there are more than 250 Millon Facebook users as of today.
What is happening in El Salvador’s Facebook? Is it worth the effort to join this network? Should my company be using it? What type of Salvadoran demographic will I impact in Facebook? these are some of the questions every Marketer in the country is asking, well here are some answers I was able to put together:
At the moment this post was written there were 149,820 Facebook users located in El Salvador this number has grown 250% in only six months!!! Compare to the rest of Central America:
· Panama 342,640 Facebook users
· Guatemala 224,860 Facebook users
· Costa Rica 215,660 Facebook users
· Honduras 113,000 Facebook users
· Nicaragua 76,480 Facebook users
Here are some more key facts:
The majority on the country’s Facebook population (about 86%) is under 30 years old, check this out:
· 23% are Below 18 years old
· 24% are between 18 and 21 years old
· 39% are between 21 and 30 years old (If you are in marketing you know this is where the buying power and decision making is in this days
· 18% is between 30 and 40 years old
· 9% is above 40 years old… this is great they are the 13,240 Salvadorans helping close the generation gap!!!
How about gender gap? Well the ladies have a slight advantage over men, 51% of the Salvadoran Facebook users are women… hey men we just need about 200 more man to join to close this gap!
In terms of marital status, 7% are married 2% are engaged, 9% are currently in a relationship… the rest (82%) states that they are single and form these 34,640 are actively looking for a relationship!
In terms of workforce capabilities, 24% say they speak English and Spanish; about 11% state they have a university or a college degree.
Think about all the opportunities we have in Facebook for El Salvador knowing that the average usage people give to their Facebook is more than 27 minutes per session! Some companies and organizations are already harnessing this power, just remember the popular campaign “U2 Veni”, the created a Facebook strategy that bought together a community of more than 15,500 Salvadorans!! Is facebook for you? Of course it is, take the opportunity now get engaged today, get your company engaged too, Facebook could even be your way out of this economic crisis J
